Winter Shots

Snowfall started late this winter. This probably means that it will continue to snow until early spring (we don’t really know, though, since the weather can really be unpredictable).

Ukrainian children love having some sledding fun. I actually tried it before, and I must say it’s really fun!

Our church’s New Year’s eve service at a rented hall of a Christian univeristy in Donetsk. We had to rent a place because the place, where we usually hold our Sunday services, has no heater and we would be serving dinner to the members and guests.

Several people went to our New Year’s Eve service, including my English language students.

    *****

Prayer Request:

We are in the middle of making a major decision this year: that is, to move or not move to another place for our Sunday service.

In order to move to a new place, which should be closer to most of the people in the church, we’ll be relying on the love gift of Pastor Terry Ross‘ church for the much-needed finances.

Please pray that with the love gift, the church will be able to save money to purchase a land for a church building in the future. It is hard when we keep moving every other year or two.

We didn’t have any power supply during our Sunday service on the 28th of January since the one in charge of the building we’re renting right now was not able to pray for the electricity bill. We were all freezing that Sunday!

Thanks in advance for your prayer support.

“And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.”

                                                                         — Exodus 12:36

This is an awesome scripture!  Have you given more than just “surface” thought to it?  Here is a picture of the Israelites going to the Egyptians and asking them for anything they wanted and they gave it to them!  What is so amazing about this is:

1.)  The Israelites were slaves — they had no rights, no position, no power, no authority, they weren’t even recognized as “people”, but the Egyptians didn’t refuse them anything.

2.)  The Israelites were the cause of all the suffering that the Egyptians had endured through the 10 plagues, yet they did not withhold anything from them.

3.)  The Egyptians gave up their possessions knowing they would never get them back, but they gave them anyway.

Why would the Egyptians give them anything, much less everything they requested?  The key is found in the first part of the verse: “And the Lord gave the people favor.”

When God gives you favor, no one can resist.  “When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)  “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

How wonderful it is to have the favor of God in your life. Even your enemies can’t stand against you.  Remember that!  God will give you favor in places you don’t deserve to have favor and with people who would rather curse you than bless you. Keep your heart fixed on Him. Set your heart and life to please the Lord, and you will be surprised what He will do on your behalf.

Have a great day. God can give you favor even when you should not have it.

Veronica with my pet cat Streaks

Dr. Laura Markham of the website Your Parenting Solutions  e-mailed to let me know that she would be using one of my photos (see photo above) on her website. I visited her website and I seriously think it’s a good resource site for parents who need some practical tips on how to raise their children.

The photos shows 10-year-old Veronica from the youth group holding my pet cat Streaks. Veronica, who will turn 11 this year, often sleeps at my flat. The picture was taken one morning before we went to church for the Sunday worship service.

Here’s the link to the page featuring my photo that goes with an article titled “Responsibility.”
